Third time was indeed a charm for Katy + Alex who planned an effortlessly stylish minimal waste wedding at Huntsmill Farm. Originally a summer 2020 wedding, these two finally tied the knot in Feb after two postponements and a baby Ted but it was 110% worth the wait and I absolutely loved spending the day with their friends at family.
HOW DID YOU MEET?
We met back at Sixth Form. Alex joined Katy’s school and we became best friends. Following that we got together and never looked back.
TELL ME YOUR PROPOSAL STORY
We went to a pizza place in Buckingham to celebrate the end of term (Alex is a teacher). After eating, Alex asked Katy to go pick up the dog from his parents’ house. Meanwhile Alex rushed home, set up the proposal. Katy walked in to the kitchen filled with photos from the nine years we’d been together, lit up by pegs. Alex then said some words and asked Katy to marry him. Following this, he surprised her with a trip to Florence to celebrate the engagement.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HUNTSMILL FARM FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY?
We wanted to have a barn, which was available with accommodation. We loved Huntsmill as a venue and thought it was flexible and really offered a good package. They offer their couples a lot of autonomy and we liked that.
WHAT WAS IT THAT YOU LOVED ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS AND ACCESSORIES AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?
For Alex, we originally picked a different suit for the first wedding date, however after the first covid cancellation Alex decided to do a mismatch. From here we found a suit jacket we liked and then a tie we both liked.
For Katy, I wasn’t feeling good about the dress I’d bought for our original summer wedding (pre-pandemic & baby) I found something new last minute and am so pleased I changed dress – I loved the sleeves and detailed beading on the top.
TELL ME ABOUT THE VISION YOU HAD FOR YOUR WEDDING
We wanted a relaxed & rustic style wedding, with seasonal flowers (slightly trickier when we moved to a Feb wedding) and minimal waste. A lot of family chipped in to help make various bits and pieces, such as our wedding arch, the signs, seating plan and soap favours.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST DANCE AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE IT?
We really struggled with first dance song, but wanted to go classic. We really like Al Green, so Let’s Stay together was a great choice.
WHAT WERE THE MOST WONDERFUL PARTS OF THE DAY FOR YOU?
Everyone was just so happy the whole day.. we’ll always remember the joy of that and remembering it as the best day ever.
Alex loved the ceremony and the speeches. Katy struggles to select a moment, but if pushed to choose one, the confetti moment was super joyous!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HANNAH HALL PHOTOGRAPHY AS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER, AND WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY ON THE DAY?
Hannah on social media and on her website does a really good job of showcasing her style & talent. We really liked her as a person when we met for a cuppa and thought her style was exactly what we were looking for.
On the day, Hannah was brilliant. She was friendly, positive, and great at communicating with our guests. She made the day better. After our wedding, so many people have said that she was lovely, and have said how amazing our photos are. She also captured parts of the day we didn’t even notice and are so grateful for that.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR BEST BIT OF ADVICE TO OTHER COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?
Remember that it’s going to be the best day, so relax and enjoy every moment. Don’t worry about all the small stuff.
Ultimately have the day you want to have. It’s impossible to please everyone, but most importantly it’s your day.
