Some of the best barn venues in the Lake District and Cumbria

(curated by a wedding photographer who adores barn weddings!)

With such a rich a rich history of farming in agriculture, you don’t have to venture far into the Lakeland countryside to find endless stone barns, and it’s really no surprise that there are plenty of barn wedding venues in the Lake District and Cumbria to chose from. Lovingly restored but maintaining their rustic charm, barns make the perfect wedding venue for couples looking for a blank canvas space that is whimsical, romantic and often perfectly secluded in acres of surrounding farm land, allowing privacy for you and your guests.

If a barn wedding venue is that you’re searching for, it’s well worth considering extending your search a little wider than the Lake District alone; the Eden Valley offers some beautiful barn venues with stunning Pennine back drops for those who still want the mountainous vistas the Lake District may offer.

LONG ACRE BARN

Long Acre Barn held its first wedding in 2020 and is a real little known gem of a wedding venue in Kings Meaburn near Penrith in the Eden Valley. If festoon lit walkways and a DIY wedding are you bag, Long Acre Barn is well worth considering as your wedding venue.

EDEN BARN

Eden Barn sits conveniently between Kirkby Stephen and Appleby in the Eden Valley in Cumbria. I can walk there from home, as it’s my most local wedding venue. A gorgeous family run business with plenty of space for you to get ready on site in the morning, the barns really have retained their rustic glory. Outdoor ceremonies are an option at Eden Barn, and they can accommodation nearly 150 guests by day and 200 by night.

LOW HALL

We absolutely loved Low Hall and desperately wanted to book it for our wedding, but we couldn’t make the dates line up! Nestled up in the Northern Lakes, not far from Loweswater, Francesca and Ben have poured buckets of love into restoring the Loveable Old Barn to it’s former glory and the accommodation on site in the farm house is gorgeous, decorated in rich colours. It’s also the perfect venue for a tiny, intimate wedding, with your ceremony in the library by the fire; it doesn’t get more romantic than that!
