The long days of summer feel like a distant memory already but Abi + Eliot’s Long Acre Barn wedding was so lovely it deserves a spot on the blog! There seems to be a never ending list of small world connections to these two; without realising, I went to school (in Norfolk!) with Eliot’s cousin, I moved house the weekend after the wedding and now live opposite some of Abi’s relatives, Eliot’s parents live really close to where my grandparents used to live and we’ve ended up missing each other by hours in random locations, so I really do felt like I was *meant* to shoot their wedding!

Long Acre Barn is a new wedding venue near Penrith in the Eden Valley in Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District. Although it’s history can be traced back to the 1600s, the first wedding was held at Long Acre Barn in 2020 and the owners have been lovingly restoring it to make it the perfect barn wedding venue it is now ever since. The venue boasts all the rustic charm you’d expect from an old barn with lots of beautiful outside space perfect for your wedding photographs – I particularly loved the strings of festoon lights through the orchard – as well as on site accommodation on site with a stunning bridal suite full of natural light for your morning preparations, with a marvellous copper roll top bath! The house is so beautifully decorated it offers lots of wedding portrait opportunities even if the weather is typically Cumbrian and wet!

Abi + Eliot married at Great Strickland church near Penrith and I was introduced to a Cumbrian wedding tradition, where during the ceremony the gates to the church are tied shut and after the ceremony is over the couple have to “buy” their way out of the church grounds by paying the local children to untie the gates! After the ceremony they travelled to Long Acre Barn by land rover, which is the perfect vehicle for arriving at a rustic wedding venue! In the evening the couple opted for a ceilidh, provided by the brilliant Eden Valley Ceilidh band but not before we snuck out for some evening portraits in the last of the light with the Pennine Hills in the background.
