I was lucky enough to photograph several tiny weddings last year, including Chloe and Chris’ winter elopement at Merewood, which was a real cracker. Chloe and Chris chose to elope just the two of them – I even got to be a witness on the paperwork! – and it was absolutely perfect. Despite the forecast, Mother Nature pulled out all the stops delivering the most beautiful winter light for their portraits after the ceremony and the chill in the air meant that we had the jetties to ourselves… except two lovely onlookers who must have told me about 50 times how lucky we’d all been. And they were absolutely right.

While a “just the two of you” elopement may not be for everyone, they are incredibly special and really lovely and just perfect for couples who really want to do things their way, away from the limelight which is why Chloe and Christ chose their winter elopement at Merewood. I loved their classic green and white accents to their outfits, including their matching wellies, and their flowers from Brackens of Bowness were perfect.

You don’t need hours of photography for a tiny elopement. Chloe and Chris booked me for just two hours which was plenty of time for photos of the ceremony and a trip down to Windermere for portraits. Congratulations Chloe and Chris, thanks for letting me be a tiny part of your day.

If you’re planning a tiny wedding of your own, I’d love to chat to you some more. Drop me an email and share your plans here.

Why did you choose a winter elopement at Merewood for your wedding day?

Merewood seemed like a lovely spot for an elopement, right by the beautiful lake. It also looked like an impressive setting, without being too grand or showy.

What was it about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?

We loved the green of Chris’ tie. The sleeves on my dress were added on as an extra by the seamstress which made the dress unique. The flowers were a surprise from Brackens – we just asked for a fairly informal and natural wedding bouquet and we loved the result.

Tell me about the vision you had for your wedding day.

Simple! We wanted a low-fuss day just for the two of us.

What were the most wonderful parts of the day for you?

Being on the jetty in the beautiful early winter sunshine with the sparkling lake all around us.

Why did you choose Hannah Hall Photography to be your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?

Hannah seemed to really understand what we were after for a simple elopement wedding, having had a tiny wedding herself and being photographer at other similar weddings. She had also worked at our venue before and is familiar with the local area, so she knew the best places to go for great photos. She made us feel at ease and was great company on the day, and her photos are gorgeous! They capture the special moments perfectly.

What would be your best advice to couples planning their wedding?

If you’re thinking of eloping – just go for it!
