I can’t believe it’s been six months already… Sian and James’ super fun wedding at Cranford Hall is definitely ones of those incredibly memorable days; the torrential windy rain I drove through to get to bridal prep, having to shoot the indoor ceremony from outside because the wet weather contingency plans didn’t leave *much* space in the studio, a ridiculously fun bridal party, side splitting speeches and the signature outrageous dance floor that I’ve come to expect from shooting this friendship group’s wedding…
How did you meet?
We met in our second year at Nottingham University, through mutual friends.
Tell me your proposal story:
We were on a trip around Italy and at one of our stops, Verona, we decided to rent a car and drive to Lake Garda for the day. The plan was to have some lunch by the lake then get on the cable car to the top of one of the surrounding mountains to take in the views. We drove to the cable car station and unfortunately it was closed that day for maintenance! James decided we were going to drive up instead so we drove up as far as we could and then continued to walk up on foot. It was during this walk James proposed.
Why did you choose to have your wedding at Cranford Hall?
We had attended a wedding two years prior at Cranford Hall and to be honest that’s when we actually found out it existed, even with James having gown up only a few miles away. We wanted to find somewhere flexible allowing us to pick all of our own suppliers and Cranford were very accommodating in that respect. The house and the grounds were the ideal background for our marquee and it ended up being the perfect venue.
What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?
I had always imagined I would get married in something very simple but when I started trying things on, I realised there was something missing. As soon as I put this dress on, I knew it was the perfect combination of simple and jazzy! I’d never seen anything like it before and I knew it was the one. It was quite difficult to narrow down accessories because of how unique the back of the dress was and I eventually picked some Jennifer Behr earrings to go with it. The shoes were a last-minute bargain buy from Debenhams – they get destroyed so I’m glad I only spent £30 on them!
Tell me about the vision you had for your wedding including your theme/colour scheme/styling/flowers:
I’d always wanted a really simple, white colour scheme. Having trawled through endless photos for hours on Pinterest, I had a better idea of some of the specifics and eventually started looking for suppliers to make it happen! The marquee was a huge part fo the day and we picked Original Marquees as they had the most amazing white sailcloth marquees and incredible circular bar. The flowers were key as they were pretty much the only decorations we had and we asked Becky from Florae Foray to bring my vision to life.
What was you first dance song and why did you choose it?
We chose ‘Nothing Can Change This Love’ by Sam Cooke. His songs are beautiful and he has such an amazing voice. Our band, Tru Groove, did an amazing job, not only with the song but the dance floor was packed all night!
What were the most wonderful parts of the day for you?
We can’t really pick a specific part but having lived abroad for the previous 3 years, just seeing everyone we love there was wonderful.
Why did you choose Hannah Hall Photography as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?
We had been guests at 2 weddings that Hannah had shot in the past and having seen her work, we knew that was exactly what we wanted. It was all very natural and un-cringey which is just what we were looking for and just what we got! She captured the best parts of the day and it feels like you’re there just by looking at the photos.
What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff (easier said than done, we know!)
