Sophie and AJ’s Oxfordshire barn wedding in September was a beautiful and intimate celebration surrounded by their closest family and friends. The couple chose to exchange vows in a rustic barn set on the Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire border, with the ceremony itself taking place under a floral arch designed by AJ’s talented sister. They exchanged personalised vows as well as choosing readings read by family members and after the ceremony held a private hand fasting.
One of the highlights of the reception was the couple’s cool photos with their wedding party. In the run up to the wedding, Sophie and I had discussed the pitfalls of smoke bombs, and I recommended paper streamers instead. Using the paper streamers, they were able to create some truly unique and memorable photos that captured the fun and joy of the day.
As the evening wore on, the couple took some time to sneak away for a few portraits against the stunning backdrop of a sunset over the Oxfordshire countryside. We were treated to an incredible golden hour provided the perfect setting for these romantic photos. Their evening celebrations started with one of the longest lines of sparkler’s I’ve ever seen and their dance floor was packed all evening.
Sophie and AJ’s Oxfordshire barn wedding was a truly beautiful and memorable wedding that was filled to the brim with joy. You can read more about their thoughts on the day below.
How did you meet?
At Renault F1 team. Sophie was manager of the restaurant, AJ liked to eat!
Tell me your proposal story:
In a muddy field by a fallen tree, on one of our many walks. Aj was upset saying it looked like the Somme and all the other times it had been beautiful… It was perfect.
Why did you choose an Oxfordshire barn wedding venue for your wedding day?
We loved it was in the village we used to drive through to get to where we met, and it had everything we wanted, a big barn with a bar.
What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?
I went all out as its the only day of my life I felt I could; I don’t normally do bling or sparkle! I wore my grandma’s engagement ring too.
AJ wanted to wear a classic 3 piece suit and his grandads pocket watch.
Tell me about the vision you had for your wedding including your theme/colour scheme/styling/flowers:
Bright and bold with lots of jewel toned colours.
What was your first dance and why did you choose it?
You me at Six – Brand new. It’s just a song that we love, all about the past is gone, and a future together is brand new.
What were the most wonderful parts of the day for you?
Seeing all our friends and family in one room, it was so great to see everyone. Also telling the world how much we love each other… even though I think they all knew.
Why did you choose Hannah Hall Photography as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?
Han’s photos are amazing bright and bold full of so much happiness. She was everything on the day, photographer, wedding coordinator, bride stylist!
What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?
