Bateman’s Barn: A dream wedding venue

There’s something I really love about photographing our friends, so when Katy & Si asked me to photography their wedding at Bateman’s Barn I was absolutely delighted. Si went to uni with my husband and had been an usher at our wedding, so it was so lovely to return the favour and be so involved in their wedding… Also, I may consider taking David to work with me more often as he excelled as an usher and did all the crowd-gathering for me – BONUS! When I popped up to Bateman’s Barn the day before the wedding it was easy to see why these two (who are probably the most laid back pair I know) has chosen such a gorgeous venue for their wedding, which had such a chilled out vibe about it.

Grooms matter too!

My morning started with groom’s prep at fabulous Swagger & Jack’s in Norwich, where all the boys had their hair cut and beards trimmed. I then headed over to see the girls who were getting ready in South Elmham Hall. The sun shone all day long for these two and their day just bubbled over with love and happiness everywhere; so many personal touches that reflected their relationship (10 years of which they celebrated that week, choosing their wedding date as the closest Saturday to mark the occasion) filled the day.

The personal touches

Katy had made all the decorations herself, including her new hobby of paper cutting, Si’s mum made the bridesmaid’s dresses and there were plenty of references to Iceland where they got engaged. Both real ale lovers, they had chosen the beer for their reception from a local brewery, and their favours were Lego mini figures which were Katy’s guilty pleasure when she was a cash strapped student nurse. They served afternoon tea instead of a traditional three course meal and in the evening provided their guests with unlimited wood oven cooked pizza while they were entertained by the most fabulous band, Vex.

You two, I can’t tell you just how much of a pleasure it was to be part of your day… You made my job so easy and pulled off one epic party… Same time next year, yeah?
