The Gilpin Lake House is a spectacular wedding and elopement venue near Windermere in the heart of the Lake District and I was really excited when Louise and John asked me to photograph their wedding there last summer. Covid meant that their day had to be pushed back to this year, but that meant they were able to plan a larger day with all their friends and family rather than with restricted numbers! I really love the flexibility that Gilpin Lake House offers couples, whether they’re planning a tiny elopement with their ceremony in the boat house itself or a larger wedding where they can celebrate in a marquee or tipi on the edge of Knipe Tarn and their wedding breakfast is guaranteed to be delicious as The Gilpin Lake House kitchen boasts Michelin Starred chefs.

The perfect intimate lake district wedding venue

Louise and John chose a more intimate wedding ceremony in the conservatory for their Gilpin Lake House wedding – which, on a lovely warm day like theirs almost felt outside with the large doors open with wonderful views across the tarn – before being joined by additional guests moving across to the marquee for their wedding breakfast, speeches and party, and I was able to photograph morning prep for Louise with her daughters as well as John’s morning with the boys as their rooms were just across the way from each other, which really adds to the story telling in their wedding photos.

Louise + John’s Gilpin Lake House wedding happened with the help of these brilliant suppliers…
