The Lake District is beautiful all year around, but for me you cannot beat autumn when nature delivers vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold and it’s easy to see why Laura & Louise booked their Gilpin Lake House elopement in October to make the most of the incredible colours the setting of the lake house on Knipe Tarn had to offer. Elopements are private and intimate weddings where the focus is solely on the couple, and it doesn’t get much more private than the grounds of Gilpin Lake House, secluded and tucked away by the tarn.

I always say we’re lucky to have such brilliant registrars here in Cumbria and Laura & Louise’s registrars were no exception. The rain didn’t quite blow over as forecast but they juggled brollies to ensure that the ceremony could still happen outside and no one got wet!

After the ceremony, Louise & Laura enjoyed a glass of prossecco before exploring the grounds for portraits, including heading out in the boat (which, I suspect, might have been their first experience of rowing and was hilarious by all accounts!) and then heading up to the woods beyond the tarn. I absolutely loved their matching Doc Marten boots (with blue laces and silver six pence coins) which meant being a little more adventurous was no problem underfoot, and of course matching denim jackets kept the chill off while we were out.

Laura & Louise, I absolutely adored being your photographer, thanks for letting me be a tiny part of your day.

ELOPEMENTS IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

The Lake District continues to be a really popular destination of elopements and tiny weddings, with a multitude of venues – like Gilpin Lake House – offering “just the two of us” packages for couples who want to escape being the centre of attention and plan a day just for them or with a small group of family and friends. Whether it’s saying “I do” up in the fells or by the tranquil shores of a secluded lake, eloping in the Lake District offers something for every couple, without the fuss of a traditional wedding.
