A tiny wedding at Windermere Jetty Museum

Elopement, Intimate wedding, Lake District Wedding, Wedding photography, Windermere

When Helen & Steve enquired with me, I didn’t even know that the Windermere Jetty Museum existed, never mind that you could get married there… Needless to say, after a quick Google I was quite excited at the prospect of a visit and on the day I was completely blown away – what a space for a wedding! We’re so lucky to have so many incredible venues here in Cumbria but the museum really is a brilliant venue for couples choosing an elopement or small wedding that’s not in a hotel but still offers the a stunning setting whatever the weather, with lake access for photos.

Helen and Steve I’m so glad our paths crossed, I absolutely adored your day and your commitment to doing it your way! Are you planning a wedding at Windermere Jetty Museum? I’d love to be involved.

How did you meet?

We swiped right!

Tell me your proposal story

We went to Bristol for the weekend – somewhere that we went to for our first weekend away.

We went for a walk up to the Observatory, overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge. I said I had an idea for a photo, so Helen had to look out towards the bridge. As she did so, I took out the wooden ring I had made to propose with and snuck up  behind her. Dropped to one knee and popped the question when she turned round.

I then asked again, since she didn’t manage to get an answer out after the first time lol. After she said yes, we went to a local jeweller and found the perfect ring.

Why did you choose to hold your wedding at Windermere Jetty Museum?

We wanted somewhere small but special for our little day. We had no guests – just us and our girls. The Windermere Jetty Museum was just perfect – intimate yet full of open space. A sunning setting with so many beautiful boats and some gorgeous architecture too.

What was it you loved about your outfits and accessories that made you choose them?

We didn’t want to go all formal. We aimed for more of a wedding guest vibe really. Smart but comfortable and not stuffy.

Tell me about the vision you had for your wedding including

The most important things were intimacy and simplicity. We didn’t want a big, fancy, busy affair. We didn’t want fuss. We just wanted to make our vows and proclaim our commitment to each other, in front of the most important people in our world.

What were the most wonderful parts of the day for you?

Saying our vows, which we had spent quite some time choosing, cuddling on the back of the boat and having a nice meal on the evening – just the four of us.

Why did you choose Hannah Hall Photography as your photographer, and what was your experience of your photography on the day?

Helen found Hannah’s website and, when we looked at one of the galleries, we just really liked the style of photos. To add to the appeal, we loved the feel we got from Hannah on the video call. Reassuring and professional, yet so relaxed and fun.

On the day, she was absolutely fantastic. Not intrusive at all and actually rather fun to have around. She was also helpful beforehand when I was bouncing ideas off her to help me produce my own video.

What would be your best bit of advice to other couples planning their wedding?

Apart from make sure you have Hannah take your phots??

The most important thing to remember is it is YOUR day. It should absolutely be about what you both want, not others.
